October 2009 Newsletter From Carol Doak
http://www.caroldoak.comFall is in full swing here in New England and the colors are vibrant and exciting. I recently uploaded a mini quilt design to the Carol Doak Yahoo Group and issued a challenge to make a mini using the design. My quilt design featured Christmas colors, but members have been very inventive using it to celebrate many other holidays and events. The charming quit at the right was made by Pinky of Omaha, Nebraska. Pinky used the acorn and maple leaf block from the 300 Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks book for the center and corners of her mini. Very colorful and very nicely done. Stop by the group and see the other minis.
The Web Store
The Book of the Month this month is the Simply Sensational 9-Patch Stars Book. I love this book because the foundations are simple, yet it produces over 2500 different 9-patch star blocks. It also comes with the Foundation Factory program CD to print the units in any size you like. You can even distort them and make the units to make the Storm at Sea block. Take advantage this month to add this very versatile book to your library at a reduced price.
What's New?
Some exciting news is breaking. As some of you may know, I have announced that I will not be traveling to teach in 2011, but will stay home to work on some new books and projects. Well, I knew that I might go on a trip or two if something too fabulous to pass up came along. Well, I have agreed to teach on a quilting cruise leaving on March 6, 2011... 7-night Caribbean Cruise on Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas to Honduras/Belize/Cozumel. Classes on the 3 days at sea from 3 different teachers. It is leaving out of Galveston, TX. I am doing this with Sew Much Travel. I am soooooo excited about this cruise because these are places I have really wanted to go. Sewing machines are supplied. Plenty of advance notice gives you the opportunity to plan and save. If you have questions, just email Clay at clay@sewmuchtravel.com
I will keep you posted as this event unfolds.
And, the other big news, is that we are putting the finishing touches on my newest fabric collection, Floral Affair. If you are going to be at the International Quilt Market in a couple of weeks, do stop by the Northcott Fabrics booth and take a peak. I have designed a new quilt pattern to go with my new fabric line. I will keep you posted on availability of both the fabric and the pattern.
The Carol Doak Yahoo Group
The Yahoo Group membership continues to group. We are now approaching 5500 members. Members are awaiting the arrival of the 5500th members, because they know I will upload a new block design to celebrate that.Members have been active completing their Mystery Quilts...which have been stunning and their Scenic Block of the Months. The quilt on the right is made by one of our Australian members, Merilyn. The settings have been inventive and interesting.
There have also been other events going on such as our "Crayon Challenge", and Birthday swap and lottery swaps. If you want to join in the fun, please do at
