NOVEMBER 2011 CAROL DOAK NEWSLETTER
I apologize for the tardiness of my November newsletter, but I have a good excuse. I was away at the Houston International Quilt Market and Festival playing with about 40,000 other quilters.
Market and festival are always so exciting and inspiring. I come home after about 10 days one little whipped puppy, with my head spinning with ideas.
While I was at market, I had the opportunity to present my new book, 50 Little Paper-Pieced Quilt Blocks to an audience of quilt shop owners.
Before leaving, I made the sample blocks from the book into the most adorable little quilts. The quilt at the left features the blocks with the dark backgrounds. Stars, baskets, fflower, tree and geometric designs offer lots of interest.
I just received word that the book has shipped from the warehouse so it should arrived here next week. I have added the new book to my web store!!!!!

The Carol Doak Yahoo Group
This past month the sewing machines have been on overload with the group. I began uploading a series of six clues for our latest Mystery Quilt. Then I game it some time for the members to guess at the solution. This Mystery was called a "Twisted Mystery" and the reason I called it that is because there were lots of "twisting" blocks in the solution. There was also a "twist" to the solution in that members were providing lots of wonderful alternatives solutions.
The combination of the varied fabrics chosen and the variety of solutions offered was amazing.
If you want to see some of the other wonderful quilts produced and join in the fun, please click on the name of the group above.
We will leave the light on.
New Pattern in the Free Patterns Section
Although I have been in balmy Houston, New Hampshire actually had a bit of snow while I was away!
Well, the Pollyanna in me suggests we should celebrate the snow. What better way to do that than to make cute little paper-pieced Snowman cards.
Both of these little guys are available in the "Free Patterns Section" of my web page.
There are also directions for turning them into Christmas Ornaments.
Enjoy!
On the Road again...Not!
I will be home until January when I am looking foward to traveling to California to be part of the faculty for the Road to California. I am hoping to wrap everything up for my next book in the next couple of months.
We have been doing some work around the house in preparation for the winter months. One thing we needed to do was replace the walk and patio in our yard. As the gentlemen worked laying out the random pattern of squares and rectangles, I could see a 9-Patch block. I shared the drawing with them and they were game. So, it is not a hand print, but it certainly is my stamp on the patio.
Until next time, happy paper piecing. Carol
